Gyaneswor Church

Nearly 1000 Christian Leaders are expected to be present, March 17-19, 2008, for the 10th General Convention of the NCS at Gyaneswor Church.

Some of the main speakers will include: Pastor Robert Kartak, Gyaneswor Church; Joseph Shrestha, President of the Assemblies of God Church, and Daniel Subba, President of the Nepal Baptist Church Council.

Previous agenda items to be continued to be discussed will be:

1.   The need for A Religious Act, as previously the country was still considered a Hindu Kingdom and it didn't seem to be the time for this to be presented.

2.       The issue of land purchases and any assets not being registered in an individual’s name, but in the name of the church or organization.

3.       The Christian Code of Conduct

Suggestions and corrections have been received throughout the year and the final draft will be distributed for continued discussion and approval.

New agenda items for presentation and discussion will include:

1.       Preparing a Christian voice about the elections and its role in the new constitution after the vote of the Constituent Assembly on April 10th.

2.       The role of the Christian in the midst of the present unstable political situation.

3.       The role of the Christian concerning government policies and laws.

a.       The Government of Nepal passed an abortion law which allows the parents to make the decision to have an abortion up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. This is against the morals and values of the Christian faith.

b.       At this time the law of Nepal states that only a government doctor has the authority to do a postmortem examination. For discussion will be, as presenting a united voice to the government, the need to request the government to give permission to any Nepali doctor who is registered in Nepal Medical Council to have the authority to do a postmortem examination.

4.       The role of the Christian towards the rights of women and children.
