2006 March 27-29
The Ninth General Convention
Ex-Army Hall, Lalitpur
Over 250 participants and highly respected Christian leaders from 12 church groups, 13 denominations and 14 Christian organizations from 39 districts stretching across the geographical width of the country of Nepal met at the Ex-Army Hall in Lalitpur for three days, March 27-29th, for the Ninth Convention of the Nepal Christian Society.
The three days of 10 hours of gathering together were filled with participants singing songs of praise and worship, offering prayers and listening to a Bible message, as well as giving and listening to district society and Christian mission groups' reports, discussing agenda items, and making decisions to represent a united voice of the Christian community.
As the Nepal Christian Society is a common platform for Nepali Christians, the three purposes were fulfilled during the Ninth General Convention:
The Ninth General Convention at the Ex-Army Hall in Lalitpur provided a Meeting Point for highly respected leaders, 12 church groups, 13 denominations and 14 Christian organizations to come together, share and learn from each other.
The listening to and giving of reports from churches, district level societies and mission groups during these three days provided an opportunity for Information Collection and a Sharing Centre for the Nepali Christian participants.
Through the discussion of agenda items and presented issues, decisions were made that would be presented to the churches associated with NCS and the government as a Common and United Voice of the Christian Community.
As the Nepal Christian Society is a place where Nepali Christians can share and care for each other, time was spent being together socially during meals and tea breaks. Friendships were renewed and friends, not seen for a long time because of the challenge of distant travel, were together again.
As the Nepal Christian Society is a place of mutual understanding and spiritual unity among Christians in Nepal , time was spent listening to each other's points of view throughout their days together, trying to understand without criticism of another's point of view. As a sign of their spiritual unity, in closing they celebrated the Lord's Supper together.
In maintaining the Nepal Christian Society as a united voice for Christians in Nepal to stand for their legal rights, a Declaration Petition was prepared and will be given to the King with copies given to the Home Minister and Chief District Officers, and the consideration of the appropriateness of preparing a Religious Act was discussed and tabled at this time.
In an effort for the Nepal Christian Society to be a united force of Christians in Nepal to develop their nation, as the Christian mission groups involved in social issues within Nepal were reported, a great appreciation for their work was highly expressed by other leaders. A Christian's Declaration Paper on a variety of present political issues was written. It was also resolved that the King really must transfer the power back to the people.
